Press Release: Bayou Surgical Introduces Next-Generation 5 mm troCarWashTM System for Automated Laparoscope Cleaning
Houston, TX – October 20, 2025
Bayou Surgical, innovators in intraoperative visualization, today announces the launch of its new 5mm troCarWashTM system — the newest and most advanced automated laparoscope cleaning solution designed to maintain clear vision during minimally invasive surgery (MIS) without removing the scope from the surgical field.
The 5mm troCarWashTM builds on Bayou’s existing 10mm platform, incorporating key enhancements in usability, cost efficiency, and performance to meet the needs of today’s surgeons. Through iterative design and rigorous testing, Bayou has optimized engineering of the system to achieve seamless, reliable lens cleaning inside the operative environment.
“The significance of the 5mm design is that it has vastly improved in both performance and cost, while targeting the largest segment of the minimally invasive surgery (MIS) market,” said Sharad Joshi, CEO of Bayou Surgical. “This technology is a great step toward surgeons having a seamless and impactful way to clear their laparoscope and maintain visualization, historically a major pain-point for surgeons.”
What sets Bayou Surgical’s approach apart is that the troCarWashTM functionality is built directly into the trocar itself, eliminating the need for surgical workflow changes or additional instruments. The scope cleaning technology is built right into the trocar so that surgeons do not have to change their surgical protocol, add accessories to the scope, or stop operating to remove the scope for cleaning, and now can maintain the same small incision used with 5mm scopes.
Bayou Surgical is actively engaging with leading hospitals and surgeons in preparation for the 5mm troCarWash rollout. The company has already secured hospital approvals, and strong interest from over 40 surgeons to initiate use of the system at launch.
Bayou Surgical (BayouSurgical.com) located in Houston Texas, offers the troCarWashTM system — the only automated laparoscope cleaning solution designed to operate in situ without additions to the scope or scope removal during MIS. The proprietary platform integrates a reusable controller with disposable access port, tubing, and obturator components, enabling rapid lens restoration and operational continuity. The technology was invented by surgeons for surgeons.
