Seeking a Solution

Bayou Surgical was founded in 2016 by surgeons in the Texas Medical Center to address one of the greatest unmet needs in minimally invasive surgery - to restore vision from the soiled surgical camera without disrupting the surgical procedure.

During laparoscopic and robotic surgery, the lens of the surgical endoscope was commonly soiled from blood, tissue, and energy device debris.

Restoring visualization through the soiled camera required the surgeon to stop operating, remove the endoscope from the patient's body, clean it manually, commonly apply a defogging solution, reinsert the camera in the patient's body, and then resume the procedure.

This complex process impaired patient safety, increased operative time and hospital costs, and frustrated surgeons.

The pursuit of a rapid and reliable solution to visual impairment during minimally invasive surgery launched Bayou Surgical.

Our Mission

Our mission was to develop a revolutionary device that would eliminate the problem of impaired visualization during minimally invasive surgery.

We wanted to ease surgeons' burden of removing and reinserting laparoscopic cameras during surgery to improve patient safety and decrease operative time and its associated cost.

Through a partnership with Biotex, Inc., a full-cycle medical device development and manufacturing firm, Bayou Surgical created the first trocar-based solution that addresses impaired visualization caused by scope fouling.

Our objective at Bayou Surgical is to improve the outcomes and efficiency of minimally invasive surgery.
